Jono is a third degree in Zen Do Kai and a second level instructor in BJC Muay Thai. He started his martial arts journey in 2000 under Renshi Kyl in Zen Do Kai. It was originally just a good way to stay fit in between soccer seasons. However after achieving his first belt he realised it was more of a way of life. As he progressed through the ranks, Jono gained a stronger understanding of the ideas and principles that are taught in Zen Do Kai and has realised that it is not just a martial art taught in a dojo but a way to approach life and the many obstacles it presents.
After training in Zen Do Kai for a year Jono began training in Muay Thai under the instruction of Kru Kyl. This soon became a passion for Jono as he thoroughly enjoyed the stand up sparring and the fitness orientated lessons. After 6 years of training in Muay Thai Jono began running his own classes and continues to love the style as much as he did during his first year. His passion is now leading him towards participating in a full contact kickboxing fight in the near future. Jono is also training in Brasilian Jiu Jitsu. It has become a new focus for him to combine the stand up techniques of the Muay Thai with the ground work of the BJJ to become a more complete and well rounded martial artist. Since Jono is only just beginning his BJJ training it is a whole new experience with a very steep learning curve. Constantly learning new techniques and a new approach to self defence is giving him a fresh look at the world of martial arts. During Jono's martial arts journey he has had the pleasure and privilege of training with world famous martial artists and higher level Zen Do Kai instructors. These people have given Jono inspiration and have set a high standard that is worth striving for everyday. Some of the ideas and techniques that Jono has learnt by participating in seminars and training sessions held by such martial artists as Soke Bob Jones and Kyoshi Billy Manne have been a large influence on the way he trains. They also continue to push him to strive for a higher level of training and a more comprehensive look on life. |
